My experience of having b’fast at college’s cafeteria-”kamat”

The incident happened two hours ago while having breakfast at Kamat. So its very fresh in mind.

Its Saturday(12th June) and we only had one lecture 10-12. After class got over I went to have something in cafeteria with my friend Sourabh. We bought two plates of idlis and started having it. While I was chewing, I felt something very hard something like a stone but since it almost reached my throat I was thinking whether to spit the entire thing out or what. Its a very good day for me, you can say a second life because I took it out and it was a 3cm crooked and rusted all pin.(sharply pointed from one side)

I can bet on this that if I had swallowed it, there was hardly any chance of it passing through my throat without scratching it badly or getting struck somewhere in the middle. I could have died on the spot as well.

I showed it to the manager and while saying sorry he took it from me.I just asked him which official from college manages canteen and somehow took it back (he was very reluctant to give it to me,I had to shout at him to get it back).

The next thing I did is that I went to the father. Unfortunately, He was not in his office so I approached Chief Security officer who came with me to cafeteria and spoke to that manager. Sir told me how he has received such complaints from many students earlier also. He also assured me he would take the issue very seriously and would inform the top management of the college.

The new block also known as central block has canteen named “gourmet” which is again of the same vendor “kamat”. And so is the case with Ivy hall. All the food joints in our 25-acre campus are managed by this group only and I am sure they must be earning like anything. Prices charged are well in tune with outside restaurants and with 12000+ students in campus, I am sure anything and everything they make is sold out by the end of the day, resulting in huge volumes and surplus. The sad or rather shameful part is even after that, the quality is not being taken care of .

I know being outstation students we don’t have much options here, still my sincere request to everybody is avoid eating @ kamat as much as possible. Its not safe or hygienic at all. At least till the time management takes a decision.

In last six months we have found a cockroach and another time a fly in sandwich and sambhar. We still took it lightly and got it replaced thinking it sometime happens even at good restaurants. But this time its very serious as it could have taken away a life.

I felt its very important to share this incident with all the students thats why I am writing this blog.

Any comments for the post or any suggestions for the management as in how to tackle this issue are most welcome!!!!
